Insight Magazine features Al Zeise as cover story for December Issue
ZyQuest’s own Al Zeise was featured as the cover story in the latest issue of Insight Magazine!
Insight Magazine, a business-to-business magazine with the goal of providing trusted information that ‘drives business growth, shares inspirational ideas, and celebrates success’, featured Zyquest’s founder Al Zeise and his impressive accomplishments in the tech and development industry in its latest issue.
The article covered much of what Al Zeise has accomplished in his career, including the software Zytax, a tax reporting software developed by ZyQuest that allows oil companies to report their taxes electronically. The concept of electronic tax filing for oil companies wasn’t unique, but the expertise that went into Zytax’s development process was. When a much larger competitor company’s attempts at the same type of software was behind schedule and over budget, Zytax stepped in to save the day.
“We saved their bacon. That gave us instant credibility in the industry, and from there it was a cakewalk. That was our first successful launch.”
The article also touches on the unlikely odds that such a successful software has its beginnings in the humble town of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Zytax wasn’t the only big idea Al Zeise had up his sleeve, however. Between several extremely successful start up companies in Northeastern Wisconsin, including Breakthrough Fuel, Aver Inc., and Zymo Interactive and Zeise’s passion for finding tough industry problems and innovative ways to solve them, it’s no surprise that successful startups in the Green Bay community continue to pop up wherever Zeise is involved.
“I love being underestimated,” he says, proud of his two-year degree in data processing from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in 1980. “I love competing. In whatever we do, we win.”
Zeise was recently able to identify a lingering gap between the community of local investors and the entrepreneurs and local talent of the Green Bay Area. This disconnect is what Launch Wisconsin, an event hosted by Zyquest at Lambeau Field in October, attempts to resolve. Zyquest’s very own Jill Enos, the managing director of ZyQuest Ventures Foundry, was also featured in the Insight Magazine article. Jill touch on Al Zeise’s goal of Launch Wisconsin, stating
“the goal of Launch Wisconsin was to gather corporate innovators, entrepreneurs and investors so they might work together to identify opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have.”
Launch Wisconsin was host to several local companies in the “Reverse Pitch” process, including companies such as Jewelers Mutual, Foth, Harley-Davidson, American Family Ventures, Appvion, Assurant and Bay Tek Games. Though the original article goes into detail about several other projects, companies, and startups nurtured under Zeise and Zyquest, it drives home the true passion of our founder – growing businesses in Northeast Wisconsin.
“I believe Northeast Wisconsin is a special place,” he says. “There’s a long history of innovation here. The nice thing about technology is you can do it anywhere, anytime. You don’t have to be in Silicon Valley to create technology. And there’s a lot of talent here [in Wisconsin]. We’ve got a strong work ethic in Northeast Wisconsin — people who understand what it means to actually create professional solutions and solve problems. Our goal is to build on that more here. Instead of being flyover country, we want to be touchdown country!”
